Maine Legislature and Gov. Janet Mills hurriedly decide to elect Metrc tracking system

Here is a quote from the latest news article from the state of Maine and their proposed seed to sale tracking system. I had previously heard that the wise legislatures knew that a seed to sale tracking system, for the TOTAL of 36 PLANTS that a Caregiver is allowed to grow, was going to be burdensome, costly, and unnecessary.    The additional RFID chip costs, labels, and additional storage and curing bins will make this a very difficult and cumbersome addition to the Maine Medical Marijuana program.

That is why the entire medical industry and Caregeivers were opposed to NO.1 in 2016, as it was believed (correctly) that it would consolidate the medical and recreational programs together, and give total control to the legislature, (who are prohibitionists) to re-write all of the medical laws, and change the entire program forever.
As they said they would not.

Well, that has turned out to be a reality,  even though "they" said they would not combine the two, or make it inherently burdensome on an already burdened industry. As point of fact, the legislature has already changed the Maine Medical Program from the DHHS, to the DAFS.      They have now voted to implement a costly and burdensome addition to the already limited grow of 36 TOTAL PLANTS,  to create more costs,  more paperwork,  more headaches, to a small mom and pop industry, where most caregivers are not making profits at current, and who are putting in all of their available time and savings to stay afloat.

Please read article below. It is past time for the legislature to implement the law that was passed by the voters in 2016,  not to implement an uninformed prohibitionist tweaked law that will only make it extremely difficult to stay afloat and run a small business, without out of state millions, ($$$$) and highly paid lobbyists, as Patricia Rossi of the Wellness Connection has.  Not to mention the generous donation from Mrs. Rossi to the Janet Mills campaign. (look that up yourself online, it is astounding, and should be deemed inappropriate and illegal)

PORTLAND, Maine — Some Maine marijuana business owners believe new regulations to the industry announced Tuesday will help cut down on the black market.
The Department of Administrative and Financial Services said Tuesday that it will use a cloud-based software, called "Metrc," to track the growth and sale of marijuana and marijuana products in the state.

"It's going to force people to go from operating in somewhat of a grey area to being fully compliant," said McLeod. "I think if you're in this business and you're not expecting it, you're going to run into some issues."
The new software will use radio-frequency identification tags. License holders will pay $40 a month, as well as plant tag and packaging label fees.

"Metrc" lists specific benefits to using these types of tags:
"The advantage of these more “intelligent” systems is that, unlike barcode-based data collection, an RFID system can read the information on a tag without requiring line of sight, without a particular orientation or from short read distances," the website reads. "While looking at these advantages it is important to note the particular application benefits. The Marijuana industry has a fragile product that is highly susceptible to damage, as communicated by several companies and industry organizations.

The sugar leaves and stems must be cut off to create a good looking and tasty smoke-able bud.

Will Jeff Session and the US Federal Maine Attorney General Remove Recreational Marijuana from States Rights

There has been a lot of news today as the US attorney general Jeff Sessions rescinded a number of Obama memos that protected the Rights of States to choose marijuana reform through public voting and democracy by the people. That is part of the democratic process of the 13th amendment, which gives states rights to choose how to better serve their constituents through state initiated ballots.

Sates' rights and the 13th amendment are always very important for the Republican party to dominate control of conservative voters in typically conservative states. But when states rights come into play through voter led initiatives to bring individual freedoms that the Deep State is opposed to,  then let hell-fire reign.    Marijuana is the personal choice of an individual,   not so different than Gay Marriage, sexual orientation, right to die, abortion, or any other personal freedom.

Some Federal protections must be in place to better serve and protect out state democracies and the choices of the voting public within those states.

The Maine State Legislature heads to Discuss the Future of the Maine Medical and Recreational Programs 6-26-17

These are my comments to the State's legislature to help us "Clean Caregivers" stay afloat, and be able to earn a living and to create an industry.
Please look them over and comment below. I would like to work with you.

Registered Maine Caregiver
Registered with the Maine Department of Agriculture: Certified Basic Applicators Course

Dear Maine State Legislature,

Thank you for listening to public comments on the MMUMP. Thank you for letting a small farmer have an opportunity to learn about and begin to cultivate needed medicine for registered patients. The reason I originally entered this program was to create affordable and useful non-pharmaceutical medicine for my father, who is a cancer patient and Veteran being treated at the TOGUS Medical Center in Augusta. He is 83 years old and has metastasizing bone cancer. I am from Morrill, but my wife and I left a comfortable teaching job in California two years ago to stay with my father at our home in Maine. We live in an old farmhouse on un-zoned farmland in an un-zoned area. I am known as an organic farmer with MOFGA, for having been awarded second place in the 2008 Organic Squash Competition.

I do understand the need to regulate and “weed out” the rotten Caregiver and Dispensary apples, and to find a way to conservatively accept the MMUMP and the Peoples’ Recreational Mandate. It is apparent that many caregivers are posing as essentially dispensaries, with untold numbers of employees, co-op grows and so on. Not to mention numbers of plants being grown in year-round cycles. However, there is a whole other side with the Clean Caregivers. It is imperative to continue to license and monitor Clean Grows and reward them. I grow exclusively beneath the sun, in an enclosed and secure 1,200 square foot indoor greenhouse, equipped with 24 hour security cameras, and motion sensors. I only grow once per year. That means 36 plants in total, that I grow to maturity ONCE per year. As having stuck to the rules by only having 5 patients and creating lasting relationships with them, the farm I have built is improving people’s lives. Over the last 2 years, I have only treated a total of 7 patients. At this rate, the MMUMP can only be an invigorating part-time job at home. Since I am mostly homebound with my father, I beg that you continue to keep me licensed, and grant me the ability to grow a realistic number of one time per year harvested plants (i.e. 99 plants,  or allow me to have a 5,000 square foot grow space to use freely. Furthermore, I and my Clean Caregiver colleagues, must have the ability to “sell” our Boutique Marijuana along with taxes paid to the properly registered locations for retail, both medically and recreationally. That will ensure a “Maine Lobsterman” trade like industry in this field. With the MMUMP designation, I am essentially permitted to have a home brewery crop for medical patients, and retail it myself. With more reasonable plant numbers or space limits, the field would be leveled, quality would be gained, an industry would be formed, and Clean Boutique Home Brewery locations would have a chance to flourish.

Since I have visited Colorado, and entered one of their recreational shops, I have seen how it is possible for a single shop to have 1,200 varieties of buds, from over 80 Boutique growers. It was just like a regular wine shop. Top notch, all the way down to budget. Tested, approved, taxed, and licensed just like having a private vineyard, or home brewery. There could also be a fixed amount of high dollar out of state “Walmart Weed” chains to be allowed in to compete as well. However, right now, the future of a local Maine led industry proposed by the people is at your fingertips, I ask that we be allowed to let our businesses have the ability to be profitable, and Boutique (Buderies) Breweries be permitted to grow enough marijuana to employee 3-4 staff and make a decent living.

Thank you for your time. I do respect it. I would welcome a friendly visit from any of the willing legislature or their emissary to visualize a small, state of the art, organic medical grow, that needs your help to stay in the saddle. Thank you again.

Sincerely,

Johnny

Maine Vote's to Legalize Recreational Marijuana; What is the future of the Caregiver Cottage Industry?

In Maine, voters turned out and narrowly passed a bill to Regulate and tax Marijuana like alcohol. That sounds fantastic does it not?    Maine is a model for progressive non-government and municipality interference.

The Medical Marijuana program which began in 2001 in Maine, was a Grass Roots from the bottom up initiative, by Mainers, to create high quality medical cannabis for their patients in need. The legislation was fought off by the state, and slowed down, and almost not allowed to begin in the first place. When Medical Marijuana was passed, the Caregiver Program was created as a cottage industry to regulate legal medical grows, and provide supervision and licensing through the Department of Health and Human Services.

It is the Caregivers, who are and have to be resident Mainers, that are to be congratulated for the success of the burgeoning industry, and its acceptance in a very conservative state. With the success of the program combined with more understanding since 2011, the state woke up to the fact that Marijuana is here to stay. Regulating Marijuana Like Alcohol is a fabulous idea,    so long as there is protectionism in place to continue to licence quality Caregivers to stay in the field and produce high level Boutique Pot, just as a Home Brewery is allowed to produce and bring to market its beer.

We have no problem with the Walmarts of the world trying to finagle (bribe) their way into the Maine Marijuana program through excessive licensing fees that they declare themselves, in a planned attempt to prohibit "the little guy and keep the riff raft out." One just needs to remember that as the Walmart "commercial" growers get their claws into the program, quality goes down. So does accountability from the top, as these firms owners and monetary funders ( Like George Sorros and other out of state venture capitalists) are not in touch with the grow themselves at all.

Let the Walmarts join. OK. Recreational Pot is here to stay. But allow the small time Grass Root Caregivers to bring their quality medicine to market, through a well regulated dispensary program that purchases and taxes excess Marijuana grown from the Medical Marijuana program. What do the Walmarts risk from allowing currently regulated Mom and Pop Marijuana Budderies to exist?

I have not made a post with recent pictures in a while. It is time to share how my plants are doing this year.

My greenhouse is 20'x 45'  and there are 32 plants inside it.

The door has become overgrown with branches,  and the buds have begun to thicken up at the colas.

My plants have been groomed and trimmed to allow the best growth to flourish at the top.

The trellises are set at 6' and the majority of plants are firmly established through the trellises at this time.

Take a good look!

My patients are lucky enough to receive two free grams with every OZ. of medicine purchased.

Please call and leave me a message today if you are looking for a quality Caregiver who is discrete, private, classy, and currently endowed with some very tasty and pungent smelling medicine.

Thanks for looking,

Johnny
